Giuseppe Verdi: Nabucco

The rich-voiced bass Tareq Nazmi made for a deeply sympathetic King Marke, his devastation at Tristan’s betrayal palpable. When Marke returned in the third act to pardon the lovers, he projected a wounded nobility.

BACHTRACK, 2.6.2025

Tareq Nazmi is an incredibly intense, moving, and profound King Marke. No dull, rumbling bass - rather, a man doubly disappointed and deeply wounded. When he gives voice to his bewilderment in a resonant tone, one almost feels the physical pain of this broken man.

OPER AKTUELL, 18.9.2024

... with Richard Wagner’s 'Parsifal' at the Grand Théâtre in Geneva, his moment of glory has likely arrived. He sings Gurnemanz without a trace of heaviness, as nimble as a lively Osmin, yet interpreting the words with such care as if they were Schubert lieder or Bach arias steeped in theology. As rich as his low register is, his high register is just as responsive, and it never loses its depth.

FAZ, 26.1.23

Tareq Nazmi is magnificent in the role of the hyperactive theater nut, who then promptly appears on stage as if in a trance - with a rich, agile bass voice, clear diction, and a likable presence.

DIE PRESSE, „SOMMERNACHTSTRAUM IM TURNSAAL“, WALTER WEIDRINGER, 17.04.2018

The Elf Queen falls victim to that magic potion... which doesn't even spare the furry monster donkey, into which Bottom is transformed—a star role for the Kuwaiti-German bass Tareq Nazmi.

KLEINE ZEITUNG, „VON LIEBE UND ESELEIEN“, MICHAEL TSCHIDA, 17.04.2018

Tareq Nazmi, a Kuwaiti-German bass, gets to showcase his full comedic talent as Nick Bottom/Zettel - complete with a gigantic donkey costume - even though he doesn’t need to overact in the slightest - quite the opposite.

AUSTRIA PRESSE AGENTUR, 16.04.2018

The German-Egyptian bass, Tareq Nazmi, was, quite simply, a revelation. He towered over his fellow soloists in all senses, his bass resonant, never booming, with perfect intonation....

GARDINER´S VERDI REQUIEM - TASTEFUL BUT HARDLY EVER ELECTRIFYING", JOHN RHODES, 21.01.18

Tareq Nazmi is a wonderful Leporello; from his very first appearance, he’s fed up with his job and carries out his boss’s wishes with obvious reluctance. Nazmi has a naturally likable presence and a deep bass voice; here he acts and sings with ease and agility - it’s delightful....

LEUCHTENDER DON GIOVANNI", EGBERT THOLL, SÜDDEUTSCHE ZEITUNG, 06.12.17

Of all people, Tareq Nazmi - who stepped in for Franz Josef Selig - is the revelation of the evening: the young singer leads the ensemble with his rich, velvety bass voice. The Mozart specialist - born in Kuwait, trained in Munich, and previously employed at the Bavarian State Opera - captivates with such rich depth and a smooth, noble vocal delivery that his invocation of a benevolent God cannot fail to be heard.
